Below are questions we frequently receive about RFID systems, supply chain solutions, RFID GPS tracking, RFID logistics, RFID asset tracking, active RFID tags, satellite RFID, and more. If your question does not appear below or is not satisfactorily answered, please contact us.

What is a real time tracking system?

A real time tracking system, such as Tracking Innovations’ RFID supply chain solution, provides instant access to freight and shipping data. Using a combination of sophisticated technologies, driven by electronic devices, a real time tracking system will allow you to immediately identify the location of your inventory.

Why is it important to implement a real time tracking system?

blank

An RTTS is important for several of reasons. First, knowing the specific status and whereabouts of your goods eliminates the guesswork in tracking control. Second, real time tracking allows you to closely monitor carrier performance (regardless of the carrier) and negotiate rate sheet compliances based on hard data. Finally, live tracking data makes it easy to keep your finger on the pulse of daily business operations.

How does (TII) Tracking Innovations’ RFID supply chain solution differ from other RFID asset tracking systems?

The TII RFID supply chain solution takes real time tracking to a whole new level. By incorporating advanced technology, such as GPS, aRFID, and .NET applications, this *patented RTTS has been optimally designed to deliver precise RFID asset tracking data—on demand. Learn more…

What are the technical components that comprise the TII Master Unit?

The RTTS features a Master Unit, aRFID tags, and robust, integrated software with best-in-class security. The master unit itself consists of Global Position System receivers (GPS), Wi-Fi transceivers, GPRS cellular transceivers and Iridium satellite transceivers. Each of these supporting communications systems integrates with small active Radio Frequency Identification (aRFID) tags. More information on the Master Unit is available here."

How do the active Radio Frequency Identification (aRFID) tags interface with the Master Unit?

The aRFID tags carry their own power supplies and transmit high power signals to the master unit. Pallets are prepared before a shipment begins with up to five recoverable Master Units. These Master Units are paired with 1 to 40 associated satellite aRFID tags (for a maximum of 200 total aRFID tags).

Each aRFID tag contains 512k of memory, which is used to store data readings for temperature, humidity, shock, vibration and so forth. They are powered by four disposable AA batteries.

The Master Unit stores this information until it can successfully upload data to a Wi-Fi network, a cellular network, or an Iridium satellite network. The system uses the most cost effective means of communications available.

Why is it helpful for customers to have the ability to monitor carrier performance?

When your inventory leaves its warehouse, there’s a lot at stake. Costs are directly related to the amount of time it takes for your goods to reach their destination. RTTS gives you the tools to track your inventory 24/7. Save money and time by staying in control. Learn more...

What reports are available through TII’s RFID supply chain solution?

RTTS reporting features include::

  • Location (GPS coordinates)
  • Sensor Data (temperature, humidity, or shock)
  • Out-of-Range Tags

Are search capabilities available on this RTTS?

Yes. Ad-hoc search tools are available to allow searching and filtering of any field in the database. Learn more about the reporting and searching capabilities of TII’s RFID supply chain solution.

Do I need to incorporate tags with all freight shipment tracking?

No, a Master Unit can be sent with no tags or configured with up to 40 tags.

Are Master Units and/or tags able to be recovered or reused?

Yes. After each shipment, the Master Unit can be recovered and prepared for reuse. Depending on the configuration and application, tags may or may not be reused. Learn more about the specific tracking hardware involved.

How are tags powered?

aRFID Tags are powered by four disposable AA batteries. Each tag contains 512k of memory, which is used to store data readings. Prior to shipment, it is recommended that a fresh set of batteries be installed in each tag and the Master Unit’s rechargeable battery be fully charged.
